Plot
Israfil, Morgan and Octavia attended a party hosted by the Duke of Barrowcross, after first hawking a sword to buy some nice clothes. Morgan got drunk and talked to a bunch of people, then loudly called Israfil's True Name. This was overheard by Viscount Sousnsa, a ghost from Israfil's past. Morgan also secured a deal with the duke to copy a spellbook.
After spending the night in the manor, the duke was found murdered in the library. He was sporting many knife wounds of a unique type and holding the spellbook - except it turned out to be only the binding of the book, with the contents replaced. The group investigated:
- The viscount had kidnapped a poor woman - apparently unrelatedly
- Lady Esty McTidal had bet with each other for their titles and holdings, claimable upon the death of the other party
- Sir Fran Siepenns wanted to punish the viscount for this and other misdeeds
- Mison Gunam had a knife maintainence kit that had been used on a knife matching the murder weapon the night before
- Siepenns tried to frame the viscount for the murder
Lady McTidall held an impromptu "trial" wherein Israfil managed to goad Gunam into admitting to being the murderer. Israfil broke and crippled his legs and Morgan recruited him into the Wizard's Guild.
McTidall, now formally the Duchess of Barrowcross, held another trial to hold the viscount accountable for kidnapping one of the duchess' subjects. Israfil successfully prosecuted, and was rewarded with one of the viscount's estates.
