Gems

From West Of Vipers Gate

Most magic is formed by shaping the raw power of the universe with words, reusing the Act of Creation to perform mighty acts. However, the power of the universe can be shaped and funneled and used without such acts. A tree can pull it from the air and soil to grow as was ordained by the divine, but Wizards often create magical circles to make pools of it to acts as empowerment or walls. Illustration and Story tells of Wizards standing in great circles made to pool power, allowing them to bargain with spirits and daemons as equals.

However sometimes there is a Site of Power, such as the Elemental Clocks of the lizard people, the Druid's Grove, or the place a Dragon died before its ascent. This leads to power (often called Magic, Numen, or Telluric Energy in this form, called Will, Wyrd, Fate, or Qi in other forms) pooling in these placed unused. This unused magic often starts appearing as a morning dew, glittering to the eye, and, over decades, hardens into small nodules or crystals, called gemstones. These gems are usually found deep in the earth and are sought by the dwarves, but valued by all for their beauty, and the fact they can be used in magical items, leading to magic items often being set with many of them, or Wizards crushing specially prepared gems for additional energy.
