Talk:A Druid Out of Time and the Redemption of the Glittering Shark
Before that stuff
So as a result of recent events, the group has managed to rearm, grab some treasure, and strike a deal with the Stalish. There was a discussion of going back to the Golden Kingdom and getting a chance to explore. The only wrinkle is that Nyssa was missing and Dunwick has prophesied that Adria has disappeared for a thousand years.
Upon landing in Cret Vaun, Dunwick and Israfil began a project to merge the faerie realm into the graveyard of Cret Vaun, due to its resting place on the edge reality.
As Dunwick and Israfil wandered fae, Adria continued to verbally spar with Queen Arachne in the future, mostly just trying to find Nyssa. After several trials, a misspent party, and a duel of wits, the two recovered Adria from Faerie, who immediately insisted they go back in order to find Nyssa.
Nyssa immediately began to support Sarlan's goal of killing Julrun. The immediate plan was to simply burn the Glittering Shark while he was passed out drunk. But then, Firth showed up, and Julrun drunk Sarlan under the table, meaning that she awoke the next morning, Julrun gone, and the Shark unburned.
The next decision was to recruit Firth and Zenth to steal the Glittering Shark and leave the other three Stalish without a way to work off their debts. Israfil bound themselves to attempt to bind the volcano that Zenth once worshiped, and Firth was offered the Glittering Shark as a prize when the process was over.
Oct 4th: Loud and Louder
Intending on stealing the Glittering Shark anchored in Vaun Enze, Israfil and Sarlan stealthily approached the boat at night. They were disturbed by Sieyès singing The Internationale from a nearby slaver ship. Being both an acquaintance and a threat to their plan, they tried to board this ship to free the Jester stealthily, unsuccessfully.
As a result, Israfil heroically parried an arrow with their shoulder before ducking down in the lower deck where they startled a guard who came to shut Sieyès' mouth. The distraction was enough for the Jester to swipe his manacles' key from the guard and become a nuisance in the ensuing altercation.
Freeing additional slaves, the group comes back on the upper deck under the cover of Israfil's leafy spirit.
Oct 11th: Kool and the Gangplank
With Sieyès freed from his shackles, it's time to return to the main target, the Glittering Shark. The watcher in the crow's nest lodged an arrow in Sarlan but the Jester, the Namer, the Thief and the Rescued Slaves managed to get back on the dock.
Joined by Dunwick and spotted by Belle on the dock, they quickly unmooored the ship and rushed to the hoy's gangplank where they were welcomed by Zenth, who was in on the heist. Sarlan immediately starts preparing the hoy for sailing away, helped by Sieyès' beginner's luck at the wheel, but on the dock enforcers arrived and shot grappling hook at the drifting boat. Thanks to some amazing acrobatics, Israfil managed to keep hostiles at bay.
Eventually, Julrun showed up and ran to the boat intending on jumping aboard, but the docks floor were rendered very slippery by Israfil and Sarlan managed to shoot an arrow pulled from her own chest into Julrun's during his majestic slide before he fell off the dock into the water.
Oct 18th: The Improbable Chase is On
The Shark pushed off from the pier and Sarlan fired a pitch-covered arrow at the slaver-galleon launched in their pursuit.
The crew began to scurry to positions, Zenth piloting, Sarlan leading the riggers, and Dunwick acting as a communication hub. Binding the waves to the bottom of the boat, and bringing forth favourable winds, Israfil and Adria began the process of bringing the boat out to sea.
However, a hoy at sail, especially with an unskilled crew, is little match for the galleon once it has caught the wind. Being on the open sea, but traveling with the winds, is keeping the crew behind them.
And Israfil has a shiver down their spine after Adria's most recently attempt to summon a storm.
Oct 25th: And Just Like That, The Chase Is Off
After many fruitless efforts to put some distance with their pursuers, the Glittering Shark crew discusses more offensive actions towards their pursuers, at least to disable their vessel. They considered flammable stuff, the onboard ballista, even sea mines, but Israfil ended the discussion by calling on the spirits to hit the enemy galleon with a bolt of lightning meant to disable their rigging.
It went better and way worse than expected, with Israfil exploding in a ball of lightning bursting forth from their mouth, reducing them to ash. Luckily, they arose from the ashes, seemingly possessed by lighting, and swam to the galleon, lit it aflame with a touch, and ran back, only then coming back to themself. Instinctively, Adria and Sieyès decided to extend a helping hand to the shipwrecked crew hell bent on re-enslaving them just a few moments ago.
Several were brought on board of the Glittering Shark where the Jester did his best to raise their wrecked spirits. Dunwick couldn't pass an opportunity to steal the spotlight and went on a performing spree.
Only Israfil doesn't seem to be particularly affected by the whole commotion that they supposedly provoked. Are they really themselves? And what the hell is wrong with Cass?
